Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
The goal of laser skin resurfacing is simple: To replace damaged skin with new, fresh skin. Techniques for skin resurfacing have made enormous scientific advances in the last year, allowing almost everyone to achieve close to flawless complexions. Laser resurfacing allows for light, or moderate, or deep laser resurfacing. But, in addition to reforming the surface layers of the skin, the laser resurfacing also allows for deep penetration, collagen remodeling, making this treatment the most essential and effective for skin tightening, wrinkle removal and collagen stimulation.
The primary targets of laser skin resurfacing include:
Our laser resurfacing system, delivers thousands of tiny laser pulses in a pattern over the skin. Each pulse heats a column of tissue eliminating pigment discolorations at the surface and creating a zone of heating deep in the tissue. Unique to our laser , these zones of heating shrink collagen and tighten the skin immediately. This laser also offers the benefits of heating deeper layers of skin tissue, thereby stimulating collagen remodeling, which over time, tightens the skin further. Patients have reported experiencing continuing benefit from this procedure for up to 12 months afterwards.
What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing"?
The MiXto fractional CO2 laser procedure is performed in a single treatment with minimal patient downtime. During the procedure, a high-energy beam of laser light is used to smooth lines, wrinkles, and scars, remove darkened spots, and other irregularities, and tighten the skin. It also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen to continue improvement over time. With fractional laser treatments, only a fraction of the skin's surface is treated by the laser, leaving small "bridges" of untouched healthy skin. This technique makes the healing process much faster and enables you to get back to normal activities sooner.
Dr. Connelly performs the procedure in our office with a topical anesthetic cream. There is little pain associated with this procedure. Most patients say that it is similar to sunburn. With a gentle washing and moisturizing regimen, your photo treated skin will begin to flake and reform within 3 to 4 days. After 5 days most patients are able to wear makeup. After 7 days the skin returns to normal.
Our procedure involves placing patients on a mild, prophylactic antiviral starting the day of treatment. You may also be given mild pain medications, as well as some "anti itching" and swelling agents. Most patients enjoy 2 days at home, lubricating their skin and resting comfortably.
